History

The French Quarter Business Women’s Network (FQBWN) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by a group of local business women to support the quality of life and business in the French Quarter. We encourage women entrepreneurs by providing a forum for them to share ideas and promote their individual businesses. Our membership includes a wide cross section of women who own and operate businesses in the French Quarter, provide services to French Quarter Businesses, and retired business women who are willing to act as mentors. We are proud to count Councilwomen, Executive Directors of the French Quarter Festival and retired City of New Orleans Planners as members of our group. FQBWN was the first organization to coordinate a French Quarter cleanup with our “Gator Brigade,” and funded the first street trash cans in the Royal Street business area.

Annual events include the Dawlin’ Heart Awards luncheon in February to honor individuals who have contributed to the quality of French Quarter business life and Christmas in July which raises money for Crescent House, a shelter for battered women and their children, our scholarship fund for nontraditional women students at UNO and Lindy’s Place for homeless women. A portion of the funds raised is also earmarked for French Quarter improvement projects.
